“Do epic shit!” is the slogan that came to mind when owner Cross Yu created this concept, which intended to bring the word ‘epic’ back down to earth. And that it did at this salt-of-the-earth humble bar in Shanghai’s French Concession. Homey vintage decor is punctuated with edgy street art and a funk and disco playlist that the bar has become renowned for. Fun and bright hospitality with a dash of mischief is reflective of the bar’s out-there cocktail menu, which is non-conformist to say the least. The current list draws inspiration from astrology, with drinks such as Gemini Feel Good, a concoction of saffron crocus-infused bourbon, osmanthus wine, coffee Campari, plum bitters and simple syrup topped with coconut foam. If that’s too funky, Epic’s cheeky take on a 50/50 Martini called Half & Half Libra features vodka, green grape jam, sour apple, lemon and lime and simple syrup.
