New York
Julie Reiner and Susan Federoff trailblazed the New York craft movement with Pegu Club in the mid 20-aughts. Then, the duo followed up with a true masterpiece, Clover Club in Boerum Hill’s hip Smith Street. The beautiful bar does not just serve classic cocktails, it embodies classic style. Leather chairs, dark woods, exposed-brick walls, pressed-tin ceilings and a roaring fireplace present the feel of an elegant study.
The libations match the ambiance. The titular Clover Club (gin, dry vermouth, lemon, raspberry syrup and egg white) helms a list of drinks with a century of staying power. Cocktail aficionados will delight in the nine-section menu featuring some rarer historical categories like fizzes and punches. Reiner’s modern classics like the Apple Blow Fizz (apple brandy, lemon juice, simple syrup and egg white) round out the list. Elevated bar fare like steak tartare, duck liver pate, and the signature mac and cheese provide nourishment in the evening. But regular guests will tell you that the best time to visit Clover Club is for weekend brunch, a truly decadent affair.
