Island Shangri-la, Supreme Court Road, Level 6, Pacific Place, Central, Hong Kong
Lobster Bar is an antidote to the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong – it is, as its host hotel’s name suggests – a discerning drinker’s Shangri-La. Decked in Art Deco and lit by dim hanging lights, this classical bar has a luxurious feel befitting of the golden escalator that brings you to its doors.
The bartenders running the place in recent years have stellar reputations too – Agung Prabowo laid the groundwork and last year, Artesian alumnus Balazs Molnar brought more stardust over from London. New incumbent Paulo de Venuto has big shoes to fill, but the latest menu makes for a promising start. Split into three periods – past, present and future – Lobster’s new list has one eye looking back, one forward. Therapy is as it sounds: a cathartic mix of Scotch, mango, vetiver and a home-made horchata. If that’s not the future, Lobster Bar most certainly is.
