American photographer David Jacobson launched cosy and intimate French salon-inspired Smalls in response to Bangkok’s myriad tourist trap bars, keen to offer a more quality-minded drinking experience. Today, claiming three snug floors of a 1960s shophouse, the unpretentious absinthe-inclined bar has become somewhat of an industry hang, also equipped with a bevy of signature cocktails by Canadian barman Danny Yeung (try the Fontaine Louche Bloom, made with rum, chocolate absinthe, chocolate cookie syrup, lime, and chili), and one of the city’s latest-serving kitchens.
