Modelled after San Francisco’s Barbary Coast during the Gold Rush, this namesake bar in Singapore comprises two levels. The ground floor is called Deadfall and is a more casual venue that was inspired by bars that provided welcome hospitality for the less-fortunate prospectors during the 1800s. Drinks are reasonably priced and the welcome is friendly. Cocktails go by colour; try the one known simply as Yellow, where burnt pineapple-infused rum is sweetened with pineapple husk syrup, and then make sure you order up the TTW (Tater Tots Waffle sandwich; you won’t regret it). On the second floor is where it gets fancy: the Barbary Coast Ballroom is sumptuously decorated with an extensive cocktail and snack menu. Firm favourites include the Tommy Tomate, the team’s take on a Tommy’s Margarita with a tomato twist accompanied by one of the best cheese boards in town. A ‘Push For Champagne’ button will appeal to those who can’t bear a night without bubbles.
