50Best Accolades
  • No.33 Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2021
  • Asia's Art of Hospitality Award 2019

Named after Italian film director Federico Fellini’s ‘60s classic ‘8 ½’ as a tribute to Italian lifestyle and art, this is a mainstay in the upper echelons of Asia’s 50 Best. The accolades for 8 ½ are heaped just as much on the service side as for the outstanding Italian food, with the restaurant winning the Art of Hospitality Award in 2019. Tasting menus often contain confit abalone carpaccio, black truffle risotto, blue lobster and baby lamb from Aveyron. The Italian wine list is also exceptional, with sommelier Kenji Torres on hand to advise diners. Branches are open in Shanghai and Macau, with the outposts boasting two and one Michelin stars respectively, to go alongside the three held by the flagship. It’s no surprise then that owner-chef Umberto Bombana was the recipient of the Asia’s 50 Best Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017.
