Bar blending kitchen and cocktails continues to make waves
What was born as Singapore’s smallest cocktail bar with just four seats has now come into its own as it has moved into larger, permanent digs in the heart of Singapore’s hospitality district. Launched by Juan Yi Jun, No Sleep Club really took off when she joined forces with her partner and hospitality master Jessica Hutchinson to bring their venue to a two-storey shophouse on Keong Saik Road in November 2019. Located under an eye-catching awning featuring a cross and a sleepy face emoji, the bar combines top notch drinks, great food, cool vibes and a stellar team.
Yi Jun – who cut her teeth at Tippling Club and Operation Dagger – is the creative mind behind the bar’s innovative cocktail list, which majors on clean flavours and modern techniques. Tipples include the subtly spicy Tom Yum and Melon, a combination of Thai herb distillate with blue ginger and carbonated honeydew, and the layered Reverse Harvard, which features kombu-steeped cognac, micro-puréed Kyoho grapes and vermouth. Hutchinson, formerly of 28 HongKong Street, is the bar’s general manager, often found greeting customers with her signature mix of genuine enthusiasm and professionalism, or orchestrating the bar’s friendly and welcoming buzz.
Having successfully navigated the difficulties of the past year without losing its direction, No Sleep Club follows up its Campari One To Watch Award 2020 with a shiny new accolade: the Disaronno Highest New Entry Award 2021, given to the bar which enters the Asia’s 50 Best Bars list for the first time in the highest position after landing in the list at the dizzying height of No.8.
