The Singapore outpost of The Old Man opened to fanfare and while the concept is the same, the larger space gives drinkers more room to breathe. Having launched around the same time as Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2019 was announced in May, the bar’s momentum gathered quickly, landing in the 2020 ranking at No.22 and earning it the London Essence Best New Opening Award.
The unique “I” shaped open bar concept is front and centre and perfect for mingling, while a lounge at the back is ideal for larger groups. The drinks, each named after one of Ernest Hemingway’s novels, mirror the Hong Kong menu with Islands in the Stream, a clarified grapefruit G&T riff, as a firm favourite though The Sun Also Rises, an Asian Negroni, also has a big fan base. Whichever you choose, it will be delivered in a convivial setting under the watchful eye of founder Andrew Yap. After all, Hemingway said it best: “I drink to make other people interesting”.
