Asia's 50 Best Bars is the first regional event of The World's 50 Best Bars brand, created in 2016 with the purpose of showcasing the best and most innovative talent in the drinks industry in this region.
The seventh edition of Asia’s 50 Best Bars, sponsored by Perrier, was announced on 28th April 2022. 50 Best hosted a live awards ceremony in Bangkok, which gave the bar community a chance to come together for the announcement of the prestigious list for the first time since 2019. The awards ceremony was also streamed live on The World’s 50 Best Bars Facebook and 50 Best Bars TV YouTube Channel.
The countdown was preceded by a series of special award announcements in the month leading up to the ceremony, including the unveiling of bars ranked from No.51 to No.100 on 21st April.
The annual ranking is based on the votes of the Asia’s 50 Best Bars Academy, comprising the most knowledgeable and travelled members of the bar industry, drinks media and mixology experts from across Asia. The Academy spans dozens of cities across the continent, reflecting the relative development and importance of bar scenes in different locations. The list reflects the diversity of the drinking scene in Asia, with cocktail bars in large hotels, backstreet speakeasies, tiki places, whisky bars and venues that major on wine and beer all included in the ranking.
In May 2020, William Reed, the organisation behind The World’s 50 Best Bars and Asia’s 50 Best Bars launched the programme '50 Best for Recovery: Standing with the global bar community in partnership with Perrier'. Its aim was to provide tangible financial relief for the industry, as well as to offer helpful resources for bar businesses as they emerged from the coronavirus pandemic and seek actionable advice and support. The initiative has raised $1.24m to date for the hospitality sector. Read more about our response to the Covid-19 crisis and visit our Recovery Hub.
In 2019, the organisation launched 50 Best Discovery, a platform comprising thousands of bars and restaurants across the globe that have all received votes from the voting Academy. Each venue is geo-tagged and comes with a bite-size review to give guests a taste of the experience on offer, as well as contact details, imagery and average price. This has allowed 50 Best to further widen its scope and reinforce its position as one of the world’s most respected bar and restaurant guides.
Asia's 50 Best Bars, The World’s 50 Best Bars and the newly launched North America's 50 Best Bars are owned and organised by William Reed, the group behind The World’s 50 Best Restaurants and its regional offshots. In 2017, William Reed took over from Drinks International, part of Agile Media, in the organisation of the 50 Best Bars awards and voting, with Drinks International taking the role of trade media partner. William Reed is solely responsible for organising the awards, collating the votes and producing the lists.
