All-Time Achievers

THIS IS WHERE WE SALUTE THOSE BARS that have consistently proven their excellence over the years. Heading our all-time achiever’s list is the institution that is PDT. The bar must be considered a modern classic – it has appeared in every list (2009-2015) and was our 2011 champion. Its seven rankings have been 4th, 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 13th, 18th and 37th. Whatever happens in the future, PDT [pictured below] will go down as a bar at the vanguard of the speakeasy movement. Next year though, we could see Jim Meehan’s bar replaced as the World’s 50 Best Bars All-time achiever – that is if it continues to slide through the top 50 rankings and Employees Only holds steady as a top-five bar. Employees Only has finished 26th, 8th, 15th, 11th, 12th, 5th and 4th. The two New York heavyweights are among only five bars in the world to have placed in each of our seven lists. With uninterrupted 50 Best status, this quintet of bars rightfully tops our list.

To work out the league we use a formula that assigns one point for appearing in one of the World’s 50 Best Bars lists, plus a small bonus that
tracks to ranking. So even though Artesian has finished first on four occasions, its failure to make the list in 2009 and 2010 leaves it in eighth position. Stalwarts of the list Black Pearl (11th, 13th, 10th, 17th, 7th, 37th and 10th), Dry Martini (30th, 26th, 12th, 19th, 14th 34th and 42nd) and Le Lion (21st, 42nd, 35th, 23rd, 16th, 25th and 20th) are the others that have been voted among the top 50 seven years on the bounce.

After Bramble narrowly missed out this year, it exits the seven-time pantheon and is overtaken by Connaught, which missed the first list but subsequently ranked 11th, 2nd, 4th, 4th, 11th and 9th.

Bramble had been going strongly until this year with 7th, 25th, 14th, 10th, 32nd and 32nd-placed rankings.

Next up are the top ranked bars with five appearances each. Artesian with its five-year record of 3rd, 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st tops this group while we say goodbye to Death & Co and Clover Club and hello to Nightjar (18th, 3rd, 2nd, 3rd and 3rd) and American Bar (6th, 5th, 20th, 8th and 5th), which have the next highest ranking points of the five-time club.
