WELCOME TO THE SWILLHOUSE. This is a knees-up, hair-down kind of venue that does not take itself seriously. It’s a sister bar to number seven, The Baxter Inn, and it’s the brainchild of bar brothers Anton Fort and Jason Scott. So, while fun times are definitely on the cards, that doesn’t mean you’ll be quaffing pints of student lager.
Like Baxter, it’s not easy to find and, again, the main signage comes from folk hanging about outside.
But this bar doesn’t pander to the speakeasy stereotype and, once you’re inside, you’ll see there is absolutely nothing clandestine about the place. There is taxidermy, yes, but it’s big and brash, like the crowd.
Last year, Shady Pines was number 41 and that it’s back again for 2014 is testament to the fact there is room for all types of bars in this poll.
There’s more than just a touch of the wild west about this place and, while there is a tip-top selection of beer, the cocktail list is pretty tasty too.
Punters have no choice but to unite in the fascination and general excitement that is Shady Pines and you’ll find yourself ripping shells of the copious amounts of free monkey nuts like a starving cowboy.
Get down, get dirty and get involved.
