4905 Freret St, New Orleans,US
WITH ITS HUNDREDS OF BOTTLES that line the shelves like yesteryear pharmaceutical remedies, we can see where Cure of New Orleans got its inspiration. The word cure is actually from the Old French ‘curer’ and Latin ‘curare’, to ‘take care of’. For those in need of a fine-drinking experience in New Orleans, it is just what the doctor ordered.
New Orleans is a bastion of US drinking history and a dock to the bar trade, so serious drinking establishments are very much required. In essence, Cure’s owners - Neal Bodenheimer, Matt Kohnke, & Kirk Estopinal - have created a classic cocktail bar, but have passed it through a contemporary prism. Their interpretation plays with recipes. Take the Elle Rio, a herbaceous version of the Old Fashioned, or Written Warning, a medicinal spin on the Whiskey Smash.
The setting is modern classic and the atmosphere is lifted by the patter of friendly staff and a music selection that runs from obscure oldies to some of the dirtiest rap around.
Like so many other US bars in the list, this is a neighbourhood bar which tries to engage with the community. Expect great drinks and a food menu that refuses to be overshadowed. With such a diverse and comprehensive offering, this bar is less a cure, more a panacea.
