The Wise King is now firmly established as a Hong Kong favourite with a difference. Its individuality lies in its heavy Iberian accent; the name pays tribute to Alfonso X of Castile, a 13th-century Spanish monarch who allegedly contributed to the creation of the country’s culinary tradition of tapas with a decree stating that no alcoholic beverage should be served without food.
