THIS IS WHERE WE SALUTE THOSE BARS that have consistently proven their excellence over the years. Heading our all-time achiever’s list is the institution that is PDT. The bar must be considered a modern classic – it has appeared in every list (2009-2015) and was our 2011 champion. Its seven rankings have been 4th, 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 13th, 18th and 37th. Whatever happens in the future, PDT [pictured below] will go down as a bar at the vanguard of the speakeasy movement. Next year though, we could see Jim Meehan’s bar replaced as the World’s 50 Best Bars All-time achiever – that is if it continues to slide through the top 50 rankings and Employees Only holds steady as a top-five bar. Employees Only has finished 26th, 8th, 15th, 11th, 12th, 5th and 4th. The two New York heavyweights are among only five bars in the world to have placed in each of our seven lists. With uninterrupted 50 Best status, this quintet of bars rightfully tops our list.
Next up are the top ranked bars with five appearances each. Artesian with its five-year record of 3rd, 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st tops this group while we say goodbye to Death & Co and Clover Club and hello to Nightjar (18th, 3rd, 2nd, 3rd and 3rd) and American Bar (6th, 5th, 20th, 8th and 5th), which have the next highest ranking points of the five-time club.
